One of the UK's largest independent network operators needs a principal-level Engineering Specialist on contract to own its engineering standards.
It's a non-delivery contract at £600 a day, home-based with occasional office travel, at a business aiming to be among the first independent transmission owners.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
You'll own the engineering policies, standards and design governance, keeping them current as the business grows and takes on higher voltages.
You'll lead technical assurance on the most complex designs, covering network, protection, earthing and primary plant up to 132kV, plus transmission-connected schemes with a National Grid interface.
You'll be the technical voice with NESO, National Grid, DNOs, ICPs and consultants, and keep the asset base compliant with the Grid Code, Distribution Code and ENA Engineering Recommendations.
You'll mentor the network and senior design engineers, support the engineering leadership on technical risk and improvement, and take part in audits and compliance reviews.
ABOUT YOU
- You're the person colleagues ring when the standard doesn't quite cover it
- You want to own the rulebook, not run a delivery programme
- You're an experienced contractor who can step in, take ownership quickly and leave the standards in better shape
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
- Eight years or more in electricity distribution or transmission engineering
- Real depth in at least one of protection, earthing, primary plant or transmission connections
- A track record of reviewing and approving third-party designs against standards
- A strong grasp of network adoption and DNO, IDNO and transmission requirements
- Degree, HNC or HND in electrical engineering, with CEng welcome but not essential
