A Tier 1 infrastructure contractor is one of five construction partners on National Grid's Great Grid Partnership.
This role leads a major civils package on the underground cabling for the largest of its nine accelerated projects, a new 400kV connection running roughly 180km.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
You'll take overall responsibility for a complex multidisciplinary civils package on a Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project, holding safety, quality, programme and cost together from early development.
The examination closed in August 2026 and the Secretary of State's decision is still awaited, so the delivery detail is being settled now.
You'll develop the delivery strategies and programmes, run the risk management and value engineering that set what the package costs to build, and hold the project controls and governance.
You'll lead and develop the project team, hold the supply chain to the same standard and carry the client and stakeholder relationships, with mobilisation expected across 2027 and 2028.
ABOUT YOU
- You're delivering major civils on a large framework or alliance – National Grid and cabling experience are desirable, not essential
- You're already in energy transmission and want the same work at a size few UK projects reach
- You're realistic about the geography – the bases are Birmingham and Bury St Edmunds, with a route through Suffolk and Essex
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
- Senior Project Manager experience, or a record of leading the delivery of major infrastructure projects
- Large and complex civil engineering work you delivered rather than supported
- Leadership strong enough to build a team rather than staff one
- Multidisciplinary project teams and supply chain partners managed directly
- Project controls, risk, programme management and governance in depth
- Commercial awareness, with budgets and performance you have personally carried
- Desirable – underground cabling delivery, working knowledge of National Grid systems and processes, experience inside a large framework or alliance, and a degree in civil engineering or construction management
